 Squaring the numbers ending with ‘5’

Squaring is multiplying the same number by itself. Let’s see how to square the numbers ending with ‘5’ very quickly: -

(Q) Find the square of 652

*  In 65, the number apart from 5 and 6.

*  After 6 come 7. So, we multiply 6 by 7 and write down the answer 42.

*  Next, we multiply the last digit, viz. (5 X 5) and write down 25 to the right of 42 and complete our multiplication.

*  Our answer is 4225.

(Q) Find the square of 952

*  In 95, the number apart from 5 and 9.

*  After 9 come 10. So, we multiply 9 by 10 and write down the answer 90.

*  Next, we multiply the last digit, viz. (5 X 5) and write down 25 to the right of 90 and complete our multiplication.

*  Our answer is 9025.

 

(Q) Find the square of 1052

*  In 95, the number apart from 5 and 10.

*  After 10 come 11. So, we multiply 10 by 11 and write down the answer 110.

*  Next, we multiply the last digit, viz. (5 X 5) and write down 25 to the right of 110 and complete our multiplication.

*  Our answer is 11025.

 

(Q) Find the square of 1252

*  In 125, the number apart from 5 and 12.

*  After 12 come 13. So, we multiply 12 by 13 and write down the answer 156.

*  Next, we multiply the last digit, viz. (5 X 5) and write down 25 to the right of 156 and complete our multiplication.

*  Our answer is 15625.

 

(Q) Find the square of 9952

*  In 95, the number apart from 5 and 99.

*  After 99 come 100. So, we multiply 99 by 100 and write down the answer 9900.

*  Next, we multiply the last digit, viz. (5 X 5) and write down 25 to the right of 9900 and complete our multiplication.

*  Our answer is 990025.

 

(Q) Find the square of 3452

*  In 95, the number apart from 5 and 34.

*  After 34 come 35. So, we multiply 34 by 35 and write down the answer 1190.

*  Next, we multiply the last digit, viz. (5 X 5) and write down 25 to the right of 1190 and complete our multiplication.

*  Our answer is 119025.
